Best Road Running Shoes

Wondering which shoes are best for road running this year? We’ve picked out the best of the best.

Asics DynaFlyte

asics dynaflyte running shoes

Asics is a name that needs no introduction in the running world. Their DynaFlyte running shoe is a perfect shoe not just for beginners, but running veterans training and participating in 5k-10k runs.

Asics have managed to combine two features any runner wants from their running shoe; lightweight construction and comfort.

They’ve managed to achieve this by utilising their trademark FlyteFoam which is inserted into the midsole; saving weight and increasing comfort.

The problem with many lightweight running shoes, is the support just isn’t there. That’s not the case with the Dynaflyte which offers more than enough support for the average road runner, and 10k competitor.

So, even at the end of a 10k, your feet and ankles are going to feel as supported as they did at the beginning.

Under Armour Charged Bandit 2

Looking for a budget running shoe, that’s also a stylish alternative to the Dynaflyte? Look no further than the Under Armour Charged Bandit 2.

Like the Asics Dnyaflyte, the Charged Bandit 2 is designed for those longer runs. At just under 300g, you’ll hardly notice they are there.

The bonus? The Under Armour shoe offer the kind of support that can take you from the busy roads, to picturesque dry trails, and back again. No need to buy a spare set of trail running shoes.

There’s a feature on the Charged Bandit 2’s that’s a pro for some, and a big con for others.

They offer immense breathability. Great for those that run in perfect conditions. But, the first spot of moisture on the floor and you’ll be feeling it.

See a little rain over the horizon? The Charged Bandit 2 is the running shoe for you.

The Best Running Shoes For Bad Knees In 2020

Don’t let knee pain spoil your run. We picked out the very best running shoes for knee pain and knee support this year.

New Balance M890V4

newbalance 890

The V4’s are the new kids on the block; the new and improved New Balance 890V3.

The lightweight construction of the New Balance M890V4 means no excess pressure is put on the knee.

More importantly, the M890V4 has an integrated ABZORB cushioning. This technology has been developed with one thing in mind; shock absorption.

Impact from each step travels through this cushioning before hitting the body, and it’s noticeable, when comparing it to standard road running shoes like the Asics Dynaflyte.

Adidas Supernova Sequence 9

adidas supernova 9

Adidas have been making some headway in the running market, especially with technologically advanced running shoes; the Adidas Supernova Sequence falls right into that category.

The Supernova Sequence shoe focuses more on overall support than shock absorption, although the construction has impact cushioning integrated into it.

New Balance M890v4 or Adidas Supernova Sequence 9?

For knee support, rather than reducing pain caused from running, the Adidas Supernova Sequence 9 wins; hands down. They’ll continue to offer this support even on long distance runs.

But, for combating knee pain whilst running, the New Balance M890v4 ABZORB technology is much more efficient…not to mention they are around $30 cheaper.

The Best Running Shoes For Ankle Support & Overpronation In 2020

Don’t let problems with your ankles ruin your run. Here are the very best running shoes for ankle support and overpronation this year.

Asics GT-2000 4

asics gt2000

The Asics GT-2000 4 are a real all-rounder. Not only do they offer the comfort and protection for runners with overpronation and/or flat feet, they are suitable to be worn at the track, on the road, or even on the trail.

Asics have injected a basic design function in their GT-2000 4 running shoes. Each part of the shoe is designed to not just support, but to promote the natural shape of the foot and ankle.

This doesn’t make the run comfortable; it makes post-run comfortable too.

It helps runners avoid tearing and inflaming muscles and joints which is usually caused by lack of support. This is all thanks to their intelligent Dynamic DuoMax Support System.

Brooks Beast 14

brooks beast 14

So, here’s the first mention of Brooks, with one of their best running shoes for overpronation and flat feet. The Beast 14 running shoe has a particular type of runner in mind; those where that have flat feet, or those where their feet roll inwards.

Like the Asics GT-2000 4, these can also be used almost anywhere: road, track, trail – you name it.

The Brooks Beast 14 use what’s known as an Extended Progressive Diagonal Rollbar.

For those with flat feet, this offers support both sides. And, for those that overpronate inwards, it helps to keep feet and ankles in their natural upright position.

Asics GT-2000 4 or Brooks Beast 14?

If you’re looking for a great budget shoe that’s a real all-rounder, the Asics GT-2000 4 is going to be an excellent choice. It helps runners with overpronation and flat feet (or both), to enjoy their run and not feel in pain afterwards.

So, where does the Brooks Beast 14 running shoe win? Unless your picking this shoe purely for design, we’d recommend buying if your overpronation is focused on tilting inwards, as this is exactly what these running shoes were designed to support.

The Best Trail Running Shoes In 2020

Looking to buy a new pair of trail running shoes but not sure which to go for? We’ve picked out the best of the best this year.

Salomon Speedcross 4 GTX

salomon speedgross gtxIf you’re a trail runner looking to hit some sloppy trails, mixed in with a small amount of rocky or dry terrain; Salomon have you covered.

The Salomon Speedcross 4 GTX was designed for exactly that. That means gloopy woodland trails, mixed in with fire-roads and boggy patches. You won’t be short of grip using the Speedcross 4 GTX, due to the deep tread.

But, a bit of grip isn’t all they offer. They offer incredible support and comfort thanks to their stretch-form outer shoe material.

More importantly, the GTX trail running shoe is GoreTEX. And, that means when the going gets wet and rough, the comfort is still there.

nike terra kiger 3

Nike Zoom Terra Kiger 3

When we hear the word trail running, we think water-logged lanes and mud. But, trails come in all shapes and sizes.

And, that’s where the Nike Zoom Terra Kiger 3 trail running shoes come in.

Nike have designed the Zoom Terra Kiger 3 with a dual-sport purpose in mind. That means they are going to suitable for all types of terrain.

They are comfortable and incorporate a flat sole, so are great for anyone that suffers with flat feet.

Salomon Speedcross 4 GTX or Nike Zoom Terra Kiger 3?

This one is a pretty simple choice.

If you run in mud or sloppy conditions and need not just support, but grip, as well as something as protective as GoreTEX; you want the Salomon Speedcross 4 GTX.

If you want an all-rounder, but a shoe more focused on the less boggy trails, and is also suitable for those with flat feet; you want the Nike Zoom Terra Kiger 3.
