David, Co-Founder Noob Norm

family hikingMy name is David McSweeney, and I’m one of the founders here at Noob Norm. I’m 37 years old, and live in Perth, Scotland, with my wife and son (yup, that’s us climbing a mountain together on the right).

I’ve been involved in the online world for over 20 years, and back in 2017, partnered up with my buddy Grant Draper to launch Noob Norm. Between us we have first hand experience in a wide range of activities, and we wanted to share our knowledge with others to help them take up new activities.

My biggest passions are golf, hiking, the outdoors and photography, and it’s normally those topics you’ll find me writing about here on Noob Norm. I’m also a tech geek.

I’m no professional golfer. But I play 3-4 times a week (sometimes more) and in the past few years have lowered my handicap significantly while reading pretty much every golf tip on the web. I’ve also tried out a TON of golf training aids. So I know what works and feel pretty qualified to point beginners (or those looking to improve) in the right direction. Do as I say, not as I do right 😉

Hiking wise, I’ve climbed around 30 munros (Scottish mountains) since 2014, and I’ve also completed the 3 peaks challenge (the UK’s 3 highest peaks in 24 hours).

And again, while no pro, I’m a keen amateur photographer, so my writing on cameras and photography is based on my own experiences and testing.

I’m one of those people that’s always looking to learn new skills, so I know what it’s like when you’re starting out. It can be confusing knowing who to trust, which tips to take on board, and which gear to buy.

So hopefully it helps to know that what I write comes from genuine experience (and a ton of research). I’m always out on the course trying new tips. I’m always out on the hills trying out new gear. And I’m always capturing my experiences on my DSLR camera.

I hope that our guides will help reach your goals. And if you have any questions, then feel free to get in touch.
